Dear Members,

The Government have announced that from Boxing Day, West Sussex will be in Tier 4.  The RYA have created a useful table here of what this means for boating.  Key messages from this RYA guidance are as follows:

  • Sailing club boat parks and marinas can open for individual exercise, and for people to use with others within their household, support bubble, or with one person from another household

  • You must stay at home, other than for legally permitted reasons. These include exercise, open air recreation, work, sport for educational purposes, organised outdoor sports gathering for persons who have a disability and under 18s. If you need to travel you should stay local. You should reduce the number of journeys you make overall.

  • You cannot stay overnight away from your main home other than for legally permitted reasons (for example for work or caring responsibilities). This includes staying on your boat.

Specifically for Dell Quay, this means that:

  • the dinghy park will remain open, but there will be no organised events.  In the immediate future this means that the Frostbite race on 2 January is cancelled;

  • the rowing boat will remain available for booking for groups that meet the rules for exercising together.  The cleaning regime must continue to be strictly observed;

  • the buildings will be closed other than for necessary access related to permitted exercise.  Please continue to sign in and out on the QR codes, use the sanitiser available, and remember that any equipment used must be cleaned with soap and water, or wiped with sanitiser before returning to storage;

  • the position on working on your boat on the quay is not explicitly dealt with by the RYA guidance.  Members are advised to consider the material available on the RYA and GOV.UK websites.  If any more detailed information becomes available, we will of course communicate it at that time.

Stay safe everyone and we will update you again if anything changes.
