DELL QUAY SAILING CLUB
RYA HONDA YOUTH RIB CHAMPIONSHIP
Friday 16 April 2010 at 11:30am
The RYA Honda Youth Rib Championship is a national championship for 8 - 16 year drivers to demonstrate their skills. Clubs hold local heats to determine who they put forward for their regional finals. There are two classes based on age (8-12 and 13-16) and the winners of our heat will represent the club at the regional finals, and the winners from the regional finals take part in the national final at the Southampton International Boat Show.
The competition takes the form of a time trial around a set of marks and the fastest time wins. The buoys are set between 2 and 4 boat lengths apart so that skill and control, and not necessarily speed, are the most important factors. The course starts with a slalom section, followed by a man over board exercise, then a reverse around a mark before crossing the finishing line. Each competitor should have two runs, one as a practice run and one as a times ‘hot lap’.
Our Chief Power Boat Instructor, John Nash, will give you an introduction on power boat driving and essential safety procedures before venturing on to the water, in the club safety boats to tackle the course.
To book you place on the DQSC heat you must complete an entry form which can be found in the Juniors section of the DQSC web site under RYA Youth Rib. www.dellquaysc.co.uk
