Training and Development for Members at DQSC

DQSC is proud to offer a range of theory-based and practical training to support your boating interests. The following development opportunities are available at the Club.

•    Coxswain training
•    VHF Radio training
•    RYA Day Skipper theory
•    Diesel engine maintenance
•    Food hygeine

DQSC hosts a RYA recognised training centre (RTC). This is led by the Principal and delivered by the RYA Chief Instructor Sailing and RYA Chief Instructor Power. The RTC delivers recognised RYA courses in the following:

  • Power Boat level 2
  • Safety Boat
  • RYA Youth Sailing Scheme levels 1-4
  • Assistant Instructor (DQSC)

DQSC will support members to attend the following training:

  • Dinghy Instructor
  • Senior Dinghy Instructor
  • Power Boat Instructor

Candidates for these courses are recommended by the Chief Instructor for sailing and power respectively and will be supported and funded to attend relevant courses elsewhere.

First-Aid training is available to all members, and for those members on instructor pathways is funded by the Club.

At DQSC if you wish to fulfil certain volunteer duties within the club you will need to have the following training as relevant:

  • Galley Supervisor
  • Race Officer
  • Duty Officer

DQSC will provide other development opportunities including stand-up-paddleboarding and kayaking on an ad-hoc basis. All such opportunities will be advertised through e-news.
