What is Junior Week?

Dell Quay Junior Week is a week long opportunity for all Juniors to progress their sailing skills, have some fun on the water and to enjoy time with their friends. Throughout the week, the Juniors will follow the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme and may be awarded a certificate at the end of the week. Older Juniors may be eligible for the RYA Seamanship Skills course.

This year, there will be an introductory and theory session on Sunday 30th July from 3pm to 5pm. The sailing runs from the Monday to Friday. Each day is about 7 hours long, based around high tide times. Monday 31st July is likely to start around 8am, with the start getting progressively later throughout the week. It is important that Juniors are able to attend for all 6 days.

Is there anything I need to do in advance?

You should login to Sailing Club Manager to ensure emergency contact information and any special medical / dietary information is included in your Juniors Sailing Club Manager record. This will be used for planning and throughout the week, so it is vital it is accurate. You can check this by selecting the green Update button to the right of your child's/granchild's name. If there is no special medical / dietary information, please insert “None” so that we know the information has been updated.

Junior Week Volunteer Roles

Pastoral Care:these roles will look after any Juniors who have to return ashore from sailing for whatever reason, and also provide any additional assistance to the instructors when they bring Juniors ashore for meals/breaks.

Main Galley:these roles will be responsible for preparing and serving all food throughout the day.

Late Galley:these roles will be involved with serving food at the end of the day, plus general clearing up and tidying of the clubhouse as Juniors depart.

Beach:these roles provide assistance to the instructors in moving, rigging, launching, recovering and packing away the dinghies. You should come prepared to get wet, with suitable footwear for wading into the water. Also, buoyancy aids should be worn to set an example to the Juniors.

Boat Packing:these roles will be responsible for checking and packing away the hired boats onto the trailers, and also assisting with recovering and cleaning the safety boats at the end of the week.
