What is Junior Week?

Dell Quay Junior Week is a week long opportunity for all Juniors to progress their sailing skills, have some fun on the water and to enjoy time with their friends. The week is structured around the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme and some Juniors may be awarded a certificate at the end of the week. Older Juniors may be eligible for the RYA Seamanship Skills course.

The sailing runs from the Monday to Friday. Each day is about 7 hours long, based around high tide times. Monday 5th August is likely to start around 9.30am, with the start getting progressively later throughout the week. It is important that Juniors are able to attend for all 5 days.

Who can apply?

Junior week is available to all club members currently in School Year 3 up to School Year 10. You club membership for 2024 MUST have been renewed prior to applying for a place – the application process will not be visible to those that aren’t current members.

How to apply?

Online booking for Junior Week has now closed. Please e-mail Graham at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to enquire about any late availability.

How much does it cost?

There are two different costs for Junior Week. If you can provide your own suitable dinghy (this will depend on your Juniors age and ability), the cost is £117. If you wish to use a dinghy provided by the club, the cost is £157.

Is there anything I need to do in advance?

You should login to Sailing Club Manager here and check your family membership. If you are the person doing the booking, you need to be able to “see” your children/grandchildren as part of your membership. This should have already been set up, but there may be one or two that were missed. If you think there’s an issue, please e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it well in advance of 27th January.

You will also need to ensure emergency contact information and any special medical / dietary information is included in your Juniors Sailing Club Manager record. This will be used for planning and throughout the week, so it is vital it is accurate. You can check this by selecting the green Update button to the right of your child's/grandchild's name. If there is no special medical / dietary information, please insert “None” so that we know the information has been updated.

If your Junior will be sailing their own dinghy, you should also ensure that is visible in Sailing Club Manager here. Again, if there’s an issue, please e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it well in advance of 27th January.

Although this might seem like a lot of information to prepare in advance, it will then be held within the clubs secure membership database and can be used for all future events.

You will also need to think about volunteering for the week. We ask that at least one parent / grandparent helps out for a minimum of 3 days (more if possible) throughout the week. You will be asked to identify these days on the application form, so please ensure you’ve dealt with any work commitments. There is a minimum number of people we need on site to ensure we can run the week, and late changes to the volunteer rota last year really stretched us, but also created a lot of unnecessary last minute work for the organisers.

What happens once you’ve applied?

As part of the application process, we ask for current sailing experience/qualifications. We use this information to review all applications and allocate Juniors into sailing groups, aligned with the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme stages. We may come back to you and ask some further questions. We try to accommodate all applications, but on occasions some of the groups may be oversubscribed (whilst other groups have vacancies). Working all this through, along with allocating instructors and safety boats take a bit of time. This will all be complete by Sunday 25th February, when applications will be confirmed and payment requested.
