East Head Cruise 2017

A Classic Day Out!

Blue sky, force 3 breeze, clear water, dusty white sands, ten sailing dinghies, two spare RIBS, several BBQs and lots of smiling faces… just some of the ingredients that made the latest club dinghy cruise a true classic.

Chichester Harbour and mother nature delivered a fantastic day out for the ten crews who took part in the cruise on Sunday 21st may. The sailors and support boats departed the sailing club shores at 09:30 bound for East Head and enjoyed a leisurely cruise in the light SE wind. As the boats approached Cobnor point the wind became cleaner and a little closer to force 3 which made for a fun upwind leg to East Head.

On the beach all sailors enjoyed picnic/BBQ lunches on the soft sand under clear blue sky. Those with energy played beach boule and many of the younger members played in the water or tried windsurfing.

With the tide returning fast during the latter part of the afternoon it was time to re-launch the vessels and begin the homeward sail. With the fresher wind and flood tide all the boats made quick ground back to Cobnor point. This was followed by an exhilarating beat up Itchenor reach which then gave way to a more relaxed fetch past Chichester Yacht Club and home to Dell Qquay at 18:00.

Thanks go out to our fantastic shore based helpers, safety boat crews and to all those who took part!

Roll on Cobnor Camp, 16-18th June.
