December Rowing Taster Day at Itchenor Sailing Club

Saturday 14 December

A very successful day was had on Saturday at Itchenor. Chris Blevins and his team kindly organised an excellent opportunity for Dell Quay members and members of other clubs in the harbour to have a go at rowing their Dale Longboat and Solent Galley.

Despite winds blowing up to Force 7, it was a beautiful day to be out on the water and there was an enthusiastic Dell Quay contingent, some 20 strong, who braved the conditions and enjoyed the experience immensely whether they were novice or experienced rowers. Richard Bland kindly acted as our club co-ordinator for the day. The ability to row in such conditions in mid-winter shows that rowing really is a year round and almost all weather activity. With Dell Quay’s more sheltered and less crowded water, the opportunities throughout the year for social and more serious rowing are boundless. Mid-week and evening rowing will be a great way to get members out on the water more and to engage a wide range of age groups as well as those who may be less able bodied through age or illness. It will not take long to learn to cox and rowing really is easy once you get started.

We had some 30 expressions of interest in the taster day which bodes very well for Dell Quay rowing next year.
