RYA Safety Boat Course
Dell Quay offers subsidised power boat and safety boat training to club members so that they can develop their skills and become Patrol Boat helms in support of club sailing activities. The courses run over a weekend, and it is important that students attend both days. The cost for each course is only £70.
The RYA Safety Boat qualification will allow you to become a Patrol Boat helm at Dell Quay. The course will enable you to improve your powerboating skills and learn a range of safety and rescue techniques. This course provides the skills required when acting as a safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers, or for racing or training activities.
The course covers:
- boat handling
- a variety of dinghy rescue techniques
- windsurfer rescue
- towing
- the suitability of different craft
- communication
- rescuing other water users
- elements of race management and mark laying
The safety boat handbook is included in the course price as is the certificate, however this is not guaranteed unless the course is successfully completed.
Pre-course requirements: Powerboat Level 2 certificate, minimum age of 18 unless on the DQSC Dinghy Instructor pathway. A basic knowledge of sailing dinghies is also required.
