Dell Quay Rowers escort Major Mick

Published 09:52 on 13 May 2025

Many will be familiar with Major Mick and his boat Titanic. On Friday he launched his new boat, Titanic II from Chichester Yacht Club. Dell Quay rowers were invited by CYC to join them in escorting Major Mick.

Cygnet (CYC) and Seafox (Dell Quay) rowed alongside Major Mick for 10 minutes as he rowed Titanic II out to the marina Fairway buoy and so began his final year of fundraising.

Major Mick is a familiar sight in the harbour and visits Dell Quay for refreshments during his travels. He has raised an extraordinary £88000 and has rowed some 480 miles. In this final year he hopes to increase funds raised to £100,000. While originally supporting an orphanage in Romania (which has now closed and all children housed), funds raised this year will be donated to St Wilfreds hospice.

Dell Quay rowers enjoys regular contact with other Celtic clubs, swapping crews and coxes in order to participate in various events. It was wonderful to witness the launch of Titanic II and an honour to escort Major Mick.
