Solo Report September 2025

Published 15:58 on 6 Oct 2025

The whole Solo fleet would like to thank John Purdy for his outstandingly successful captaincy over the past three years. He has passed the official Solo regalia on to John Ellis who has been said to be overwhelmed with the honour.

  • With just one day's racing to go in October, Mark Gardner leads the fleet in the Solo Late Trophy series. Simon Verrall is treading on his heels, just one point behind.
  • Unfortunately, The Bass Cup slipped from Dell Quay's grasp this year. Missing many of our best helms, the Solo fleet nevertheless put up a brave rear guard struggle but the result was seldom in doubt on a windy and rather confused day.
  • Steve Holcroft was the highest placed Solo in the Evening series, coming third. The series was comfortably won however by Bill Dawber in his 2000.
  • The Solo fleet provided much of the race admin team, under Peter Blow, that evidently made the Firefly Open a great success amongst those taking part. It was particularly good to see so many local Firefly crews competing. We look forward to hosting them in our turn on the duty rosters for the 2026 Solo Open!
