DQSC hosted a delightful evening of celebration and commemoration on 8th May, with 90 people, dressed in 1940s finery or patriotic red, white and blue! This included club members, our Dell Quay neighbours and people from the Apuldram Parish. Everyone enjoyed delicious fish and chips and listened to World War 2 songs in 'a cappella style, sung by the talented DQ singers, led by Lizzie Lynus. We danced and sang along to Lady and the Dukes, the fantastic band with Lauren the beautiful lead singer, and many of us enjoyed joining in with the Lindy Hop dancing, led by Jon and Lucy Stares.

Adrian Moss, Leader of Chichester District Council, shared these words 'We have come together, as a community of Apuldram Parish and Dell Quay Sailing Club, to commemorate 80 years since the beginning of the end of World War 2. We enjoy freedoms today due to the losses and pain of those that fought and served. We will go onto the veranda at 9.30, to watch the lighting of the Beacon of Hope, along with hundreds of other communities across Britain and Europe, followed by singing I vow to thee my country.'

Thank you all for joining us this evening, for this memorable occasion, for the joy of celebration, the quiet reflection and shared gratitude for those that have gone before us.

Together, we honour the past and celebrate a future built on unity, hope and peace.
