New rowing boat

Published 09:55 on 14 May 2025
The club have just added to their fleet of rowing boats and purchased a second hand Hartford 18 called Firefly.
Firefly is a fixed seat scull (each rower has two oars) and can take from one to three rowers plus a cox. The boat is very light and can be easily managed by a smaller / lighter crew.
Firefly will allow us to increase our row offering and allow us to be more flexible in getting members on the water.
Firefly also provides our rowers an opportunity to learn another skill. Sculling like sweep rowing is very easy to learn and we hope will keep our rowers interested and allow them to expand their skillset.
Seats in Firefly will be available to book on SCM in the same way as we currently book seats in Seafox. We hope members will enjoy the new addition to our rowing fleet and we look forward to seeing you on the water.
As a reminder rowing is open to all club members,. You do not need any prior experience we will provide full training. You also do not need any special equipment or clothing, wet shoes / boots, a buoyancy aid and outdoor clothing suitable for the conditions are all that is required. Contrary to popular believe you also do not need to be a super fit although it is a great way of improving your fitness. We have rows to suit every ability from leisurely social rows through to race and fitness training. Rowing really is the easiest way to get on the water. If you need more information please speak to one of our lead rowers or have a look at the website under Paddlesports.
